None of our products are intended for human or animal consumption, and nothing on this page should be read as a suggestion otherwise. Rather than tucking that away in small grey text at the bottom of the page, as though it were a legal formality that means nothing to us, we say it here, at the top. This is the scope of the business.

How Peptide Works Started

The honest description is a plain one. It is far less romantic than the kind of origin story you might find in the pages of any industry magazine.

Peptide Works was founded because a small team of people who had spent their professional careers buying research tools grew tired of how that process usually unfolded. There was no single dramatic failure. There was a long list of small, preventable annoyances that every person who has ever ordered research compounds will recognise immediately.

A vial arrives and the certificate of analysis is missing. You ask for it, and what comes back is a scanned document with no batch number on it, which is much the same as no document at all. You assay the same product twice, six weeks apart, and the two batches behave differently in the same assay. Now you have a week of work to untangle, and no way to tell whether the variable was your protocol or the material itself. You write to a support address and receive an automated reply, then silence. You order from abroad and sit in a customs queue for three weeks, with nobody at the supplier able to tell you anything more useful than the fact that it has shipped.

None of these are disasters on their own. Together, they add up to something corrosive. You lose confidence in your inputs. And once a researcher can no longer trust the inputs, the science slows down. Time that should be spent running experiments is spent re-validating materials instead. Budgets are spent buying the same compound from two different suppliers so the data can be checked against itself, which is a silly way to work, and yet many laboratories quietly do it.

The Waste We Exist to Remove

When that happens, a specific kind of waste appears. It is worth defining exactly what that waste is, because we exist so that our customers do not have to carry it.

A researcher runs an experiment. The result is unexpected. Now they have to rewind through every step and ask where the strangeness came from. Was it the protocol? The equipment? The technique? Or was it the material, the one parameter they had assumed was constant, because a vendor told them it was 99% pure and there had so far been no reason to challenge that? If the material cannot be ruled out quickly and easily, it stays on the list of suspects, and that slows any investigation down considerably. Every hour spent there is an hour taken away from the actual question.

The whole task is simply to take the material off the list of suspects. It sounds like a small thing. It is not.

A Narrow Idea, Held Every Day

Peptide Works began with a deliberately narrow idea. It is not a grand mission. It is a set of operating commitments, which are less about being stated and more about being met every day, on every order, large or small.

Anyone can hold a standard for the big orders from major customers. The real test is whether that standard holds when someone nobody at the company has ever heard of places a small, routine order on a Friday afternoon and the warehouse is running behind. Here, that order is treated exactly the same way. If it were not, the standard would only be theatre.

That phrasing matters to us. Many suppliers describe their mission in terms of advancing human knowledge and discovery. We are not discovering anything. Our customers are. Our task is far more modest and far more concrete. It is to remove the material as a source of doubt, so that the doubt can live where it belongs, which is in the hypothesis.

A research peptide is an input. Everything downstream inherits whatever uncertainty that input carries with it. We want the Peptide Works vial to be the least interesting variable in your experiment.

There is a whole class of company in this field that chases prestige. Sponsoring conferences. Issuing press releases. Talking about partnership and innovation. None of that is objectionable in itself, but it is not what we pay attention to. We pay attention to whether the batch we shipped this morning was properly analysed. To who checked that the cold packs in last Tuesday's box were still cold on arrival. To whether the person who emailed us at eleven at night received an answer written by a human rather than a template. These are unremarkable things. Taken together, they are the entire difference between a supplier you can build a research programme on and a supplier you cannot.

Our Vision and the Long Game

We would rather be the research supplier that researchers keep coming back to for years than the search result somebody found once because we happened to appear first.

We know this is a fluid market. Complaints eventually catch up with suppliers who turn up, undercut on cost, fail testing and then disappear. We would much rather grow slowly and still be here in ten years. That has led to decisions which may look strange from the outside. Refusing to stock items we cannot properly validate. Holding a batch back rather than rushing it out on the assumption that an early test result will turn out fine. Telling a customer we do not yet have a straightforward answer.

There is only one game we are interested in playing, and it is the long one.

In practice, the long game means accepting short-term losses that a more aggressive operator would avoid. It means that when a shipment of a product in high demand fails testing where it needed to pass, we send it back instead of listing it. It means we sometimes lose a customer to a lower-priced vendor and choose not to chase them, because the only way to win that particular game is to become the thing we started this business to escape. Some of those customers come back. Some do not. Both outcomes are acceptable to us.

This is the longest part of the page, and therefore the part that matters most.

What We Mean by Purity

For our standard catalogue, we work to a minimum of 99% purity, and a minimum of 98% for complex peptides, where the chemistry means that higher thresholds could not be held consistently and honestly.

We want to be clear about what that number is and what it is not. HPLC purity tells you how much of what is in the vial is the intended target sequence rather than related impurities: truncated sequences, deletion products, side-chain modifications and the many other things that synthesis can hand you besides what you asked for. It is a comparable, meaningfully standard metric, and it will make sense to you. It is also not the whole story. The other parts of the specification matter as well, including peptide content, water content, residual solvent, counterion, and confirmation of identity by mass spectrometry. If a supplier quotes a purity figure, shows off the best number and stays quiet about the other components of the specification, they are telling you half a story.

Take a specific example of where that half-story leads you astray. A vial is described as 99% pure. That figure is accurate. It also says nothing about net peptide content, which can be considerably lower than the gross mass in the vial, largely because lyophilised material carries water and counterion along with the peptide. If you weigh out by gross mass and treat that mass as though it were pure peptide, your concentration is now wrong in a way that matters. You will never see the error, because every number you were given was factually correct. Purity and content are two separate questions. A supplier who blurs them together is either being sloppy or hoping you will not notice.

That is why we report what we find, and do not average results across a product line. Purity is a property of the batch, not of a catalogue entry.

Independent Third-Party Testing

Every batch is tested by an independent third-party laboratory. Not our own lab. Not the manufacturer's own certificate, passed along unread.

That difference is not a technicality. An in-house certificate of analysis is a self-certification produced by the manufacturer. It may well be accurate. But there is an endorsement problem built into it, and a customer should not be asked to take it on faith. When we send material out for independent analysis, the laboratory has no incentive to shade or shape the result. That is the entire value of the exercise.

Testing generally covers identity by mass spectrometry and purity by HPLC. The results are tied to a single batch number, and that batch number is the thread that leads from the vial in your hand back to something you can actually read.

The two techniques answer different questions, and we treat them as complementary rather than as alternatives. Mass spectrometry answers the question of whether this is the sequence it claims to be, by confirming that the measured mass corresponds to the theoretical mass of the intended target sequence. That, on its own, says nothing about how much of the material in the vial is that molecule. Answering that is HPLC's job. The chromatogram separates the sample into its components and reports the relative area under each peak, which is how the purity percentage is arrived at. A supplier who gives you one without the other is answering half your question.

A certificate is only as good as the traceability behind it, which is another point that is easy to overlook. A certificate with no batch number, no date, no named laboratory and no named analyst is not proof. It is paper. Anyone can produce a PDF. The only reason the document means anything beyond ritual is that it can be traced to a particular lot, tested on a particular date, by a laboratory willing to be named and, if you were determined enough, contacted. We hold ourselves to that standard partly because a certificate that cannot be traced is worse than no certificate at all. It gives you false confidence, and false confidence is more dangerous than uncertainty that has been openly acknowledged.

We also want to be honest about the limits of what testing actually achieves. Independent analysis is a snapshot. It tells you the condition of the material at the moment it was tested. It does not guarantee what happens to that material afterwards, in storage, in transit or in your freezer. This is why the storage and packaging described further down this page are not a separate topic from quality. They are part of the same topic. A batch that tests perfectly and then sits at ambient temperature in a warehouse for five days is no longer 99% pure, whatever the certificate says.

Batch-Level Documentation

You can obtain the certificate of analysis for the batch you actually received. Not for a representative batch. Not for a batch that performed well last year. This same batch-specific approach applies when reviewing individual catalogue entries, including Peptide Works Thymalin, where the documentation requested should correspond to the batch number shown on the supplied vial.

If you have bought from us before and you would like the certificate for your material, ask our support team and give them the batch number on your vial. We will send it. If for some reason we cannot, we will tell you that plainly, rather than sending you something similar and hoping you do not notice.

That last practice is common enough that it deserves to be named. A supplier posts one document on a product page and never takes it down. It belongs to one batch, possibly tested once, years ago. That certificate is then shown to every customer who buys that product, not only to the customer who received that particular lot. Technically, nothing false has been said. But the document has been severed from the material it describes, and it has become decoration.

The fix is simple: batch-level documentation. It only requires that someone keeps the mapping between what was verified and what was shipped, order by order. It is administrative work that nobody enjoys, and like all administrative work it is invisible to customers until the moment they need it. We do that work. It is one of the least interesting things about this business, and one of the most important.

Why Batch Consistency Is the Thing That Really Matters

The point of all this, in the end, is reproducibility. If the material varies from batch to batch, the results vary from batch to batch, and the researcher is left trying to separate a real effect from an artefact of supply. That is a miserable place to be, and on our side of the relationship it is entirely avoidable.

We care about consistency at least as much as we care about the headline purity number. If a supplier achieves 99.4% on one lot and 97.1% on the next with no explanation, they are not really a 99% supplier. They are a distributor with a good marketing department.

The statistical point is obvious once it is stated. When you are only shown the best batch, you are being shown a maximum and invited to read it as an average. What a researcher actually needs is the spread: how much variation there is between lots, and whether the supplier understands why that variation exists. A tight distribution around a slightly lower mean beats a wide distribution with an impressive ceiling, because reproducible work depends on a tight distribution. We would rather be reliably 99.2 than sometimes 99.8 and sometimes 97.

Batches that fail to meet our expectations do not ship. That costs money. We lose stock availability, and sometimes we lose a sale to someone who needed the material that week and went elsewhere. That trade is acceptable to us, because the only alternative is to ship something we would not want to receive ourselves.

No batch fails softly here. Nothing gets quietly re-racked, deprioritised or folded into a blend where the quantity seems to matter less. It goes back. We are aware that every supplier says this, and that saying it proves nothing. The only real evidence you have is the stock-out: the product that is not there when you expected it to be. Supplying anything without ever running out of it requires either an extraordinary supply chain or extraordinarily relaxed standards, and in this industry the second explanation is more common than the first.

Why We Choose Our Words Carefully

As you read this page, you will notice that it does not tell you what any of our peptides do.

That is deliberate. We catalogue research compounds. We do not claim to have completed the work or to be pre-empting the literature, and we should certainly not be attaching outcomes to them. Anyone who describes effects, benefits or applications is stepping into territory where they do not belong and are not permitted to go, and the fact that competitors do it is even less of a reason for us to follow.

We understand that this makes our product pages less immediately useful to some visitors than a competitor's, and we are at peace with that. What you get from us is a page that tells you what the compound is, how pure it is, and who verified it. A page that explains what a compound will do for you is no longer a product page. It has become something else entirely, and it is something we are neither licensed to write nor in any position to write.

We will tell you what is in the vial, how pure it is, who verified that, and which batch it came from. Interpretation is your department.

Lyophilised Vials in More Detail

Peptides in solution are far less stable than dry peptides, so we lyophilise, because removing the water buys stability and shelf life. The trade-off is that the material has to be handled with a little more care on arrival, but almost every laboratory that works with peptides is already set up to do that.

Blends and the Risk of Drift

Blends carry an unusual quality risk. If the ratio drifts between batches, you receive a material that is technically the same product but functionally a different input, and there is no convenient way for the researcher to detect the drift. For that reason, consistency of ratio in a blend is treated as a specification, not an aspiration.

Convenience and Its Cost

Pre-mixed presentations are honest about the fact that convenience has a price in stability. A convenient pre-mixed format has a shorter usable life than the lyophilised equivalent, because the water is back. That is a real trade, and it is one made by design rather than by accident.

What We Will Not List

The same rule applies to everything above. We do not list anything we cannot verify to our own satisfaction. There are compounds we have been asked for repeatedly and have chosen not to stock, because we could not find material we were confident in. Turning demand away is uncomfortable. It is also the only version of a quality standard that counts, because a standard you drop whenever it becomes inconvenient is not a standard. It is a preference.

Peptides do not tolerate careless treatment. Temperature, moisture and light all matter. A compound that was 99.5% pure at the point of testing can be meaningfully degraded by the time it reaches a bench, if the days or weeks in between were not handled with care.

This is the part of the supply chain that customers hear least about and are affected by most. Testing produces a document. Storage happens in a building nobody visits, and it produces nothing at all. There is no certificate that says we did not leave this on a loading dock in July. The only real guarantee available here is that the supplier takes it seriously and says so plainly. Take that for what it is, and judge us on whether the material reaches you in the condition we said it would.

Our storage is temperature-controlled. Lyophilised material is held under conditions that match its stability profile, and stock is rotated on a first-in, first-out basis, so older material does not drift to the back of a shelf until somebody notices it.

Packaging is built to survive the journey, not the photograph. Insulated packaging and cold-chain materials are used where the compound and the destination call for them. Vials are protected against impact, because a delivery that held its temperature the whole way and then arrived with a cracked vial has still failed.

We spend more on packaging than it appears to be worth, because the cost of a failed shipment is not the cost of the materials. It is the cost of the delay, which is paid by the customer, and it is always higher. A parcel travelling to a hot country in August is not packed the same way as a parcel travelling to a temperate one in February, and the person packing it knows that. It sounds obvious. It is skipped constantly.

Dispatch is discreet. The outer packaging does not advertise what is inside. This is ordinary for our category, and we only mention it because people ask.

Tracking and What It Actually Tells You

Orders are tracked. Tracking information is made available to you, and our support team can help you interpret it when the tracking page says something vague, as tracking pages often do. Carrier tracking systems are built with ordinary parcels in mind, not temperature-sensitive research material, and their language reflects that. A status is only ever a record of the most recent successful scan, and no scan does not necessarily mean no movement. We have looked at enough of these to tell the difference between ordinary silence and the kind that signals a problem, and we will tell you which one you are looking at.

Protection, Customs and Realistic Expectations

Shipping protection is optional, and we generally recommend it for international shipments. Packages are occasionally lost, damaged or held. That is true of every supplier and every carrier, and any company that claims otherwise is either inexperienced or being loose with the truth.

Customs is the area we have the least control over. Import rules for research materials vary by country and can change suddenly. A shipment that cleared without difficulty last month can be flagged this month under the same conditions. If a package is held, we will work through it with you, documenting the issue, following up and keeping you informed. You would not want anyone promising you an outcome they have no power to deliver, and so we will not promise you one. We would rather say that plainly than let you discover it at the border. It remains your responsibility to know the import rules that apply where you are.

Transit times vary. The estimates we give are realistic rather than flattering. The same applies to your order if it is delayed. We would rather tell you early and be wrong in your favour than stay quiet and hope it works itself out. Our internal policy is straightforward: nobody at Peptide Works is allowed to let a customer discover a delay from the tracking page. If we know, you know, and you know before you go looking.

Support at Peptide Works is a real department, staffed by people who know the catalogue. It is not a telephone tree designed to absorb complaints until they go away.

A little about how we run it.

Support Does Not End at Delivery

Signing for a package does not mean our interest in it stops. If the material arrives damaged, if a batch behaves in a way you did not expect, or if documentation you need is not available when you need it, that becomes an active issue and we treat it as one. A supplier who treats shipping and supply as the same thing has closed the door at the doorstep.

We Would Rather Have the Question

We would rather answer the question than manage the interaction. If you ask how a batch was tested and the honest answer is complicated, you will get the complicated answer. We do not train people to make questions go away.

We Say So When We Do Not Know

If a shipment is stuck and we genuinely do not know why, we will tell you. An honest "we do not know yet, and here is what we are doing about it" is more useful than a comforting sentence that later turns out to be false. That reassuring sentence buys you a day of calm and costs you all of your trust.

When We Are Wrong, We Make It Right

Mistakes happen. Orders get picked incorrectly. Packages go missing. Occasionally something leaves the building that should not have. The real measure of a supplier is not whether they ever make a mistake, because they will. It is what happens in the hour after the mistake is found. We try to make that hour count. Above all, we try to avoid the technically correct but practically useless response: the one that explains why the problem is not our fault and recites a policy without moving the researcher any further forward. The question of fault is usually the least interesting question in the room. The better question is where we go from here.

How We Work

We are not a large corporation and we do not behave like one. The people who buy from us are professionals who are very good at spotting unsupported claims, so there is no reason for us to pretend to be bigger than we are.

What we actually have is a small group of people who know the material, know the catalogue and are unusually resistant to shortcuts. The internal culture is simple. If something is wrong, you say so, and nobody is ever punished for stopping a batch. That one rule solves more problems than any policy document we could write.

We hold ourselves to a few things that nobody asks of us:

Every batch leaves with independent analysis confirming that it meets specification. Urgency is not an exception, and a customer saying they do not mind is not a reason to skip it.

Nobody in this business, at any level, tells a customer what a compound does. Not in an email, not on the telephone, not in a chat window. If a customer asks, the answer is that we cannot advise on that, and here is the analytical data.

We do not make decisions we would be uncomfortable having read back to the customer.

It is dishonest, it puts people at risk, and it damages the credibility of everyone who is trying to behave responsibly.

The wink is the part we find hardest to accept, because it is done on purpose. The supplier writes the disclaimer, makes sure it is legally covered, and then arranges everything else on the site, including the imagery, the language and the comparisons between products, to say precisely the opposite of what the disclaimer says. The disclaimer stops being a shield and becomes a statement. Everyone involved understands what is happening. It is not a misunderstanding. It is a strategy.

We are not going to pretend that we can fix this on our own. What we can do is be very clear about where we stand.
